Stellantis CEO apologises to customers over PureTech engine problems
Stellantis chief executive Antonio Filosa apologised to customers who experienced problems with the group’s 1.2-litre PureTech engine.
The engine was used in cars from brands including Peugeot, Citroën, Opel and DS.
In some versions, its timing belt runs in oil and can wear down early, with debris potentially blocking lubrication and causing serious engine damage.
The issue does not affect every PureTech engine, and a car’s version, build year, maintenance and history matter.
Filosa said Stellantis has set up around 100 quality teams, bringing together engineers, production staff and suppliers to address problems.
He said vehicle quality had improved about 30% since early 2026, but the company has not explained how it measured that figure.
Stellantis has also introduced a PureTech version with a timing chain in some models, while the company must show that quality improvements last and restore customer confidence.
