Puebla to restrict street vendors in historic centre during Buen Fin
Puebla’s municipal government will deploy police in the historic centre during Buen Fin, Mexico’s major shopping promotion, from Nov.
13 to 17.
Mayor José Chedraui Budib said the operation aims to stop street vendors from setting up there and to prevent the sale of counterfeit goods.
The National Chamber of Commerce, Services and Tourism requested the measure as more people are expected in the city centre during the shopping period.
The city estimates that about 20,000 street vendors operate in the centre’s surrounding streets, especially at weekends.
Officials say there is no agreement with the vendors, but the mayor is open to talks about moving them to suitable locations.
Puebla expects Buen Fin to generate 6.2 billion pesos in economic activity, 7.3% more than last year’s edition.
Consumer protection offices will also set up help desks and offer a service to resolve disputes at three shopping centres.

Mayor José Chedraui Budib said the operation followed a request from the National Chamber of Commerce, Services and Tourism.
Buen Fin is scheduled for November 13 to 17, when foot traffic in the city centre is expected to increase.
