Floods and Tornadoes Hit South Kalimantan as Wildfires Continue

Heavy rain brought floods and tornadoes to parts of South Kalimantan, while wildfires continued to burn in the province.

In Banjar district, 175 people were affected by the extreme weather, and about 35 families were affected by tornado damage.

About 75 hectares of land in South Kalimantan were still burning in wildfires, according to Indonesia’s disaster agency.

Floods also affected residents in Subulussalam, Aceh, and several districts in North Sumatra.

In Asahan, water from the Silau Tua River flooded homes after heavy rain, while overflowing rivers and a broken embankment caused flooding in Deli Serdang.

The disaster agency urged local governments to prepare for further rain-related hazards, including floods and landslides.

Banjar authorities were assessing damage, coordinating locally and preparing to distribute supplies.
