Great Britain win two golds at Track Cycling World Championships

Great Britain won two gold medals on the second day of the Track Cycling World Championships in Shanghai.

The women’s team pursuit squad reclaimed its title with a win over Italy, while Matt Bostock took his first world title in the men’s scratch race.

Britain’s women started the team pursuit final a second behind but turned the race around and won by more than five seconds.

Britain also earned bronze in the men’s team pursuit, as Denmark beat Italy for gold.

Bostock had earlier ridden in the qualifying rounds for the bronze-winning men’s pursuit team, making his scratch race victory his second medal of the day.

The two golds marked a strong start for Britain after a disrupted build-up to the championships.

Britain’s Sophie Capewell and Emma Finucane also reached the women’s sprint semi-finals, where they were set to face each other for a place in the gold medal final.
