Motorcyclist dies after crash involving ambulance in Milan

Fabrizio Cesare Acerni, 30, died after a crash involving a scooter, taxi and ambulance in Milan.

The crash happened on Monday afternoon on the Guido Crepax bridge, which crosses the Naviglio Grande in the San Cristoforo area.

Police say an ambulance overtook a bus, while a taxi coming the other way braked to avoid it.

Acerni’s scooter then hit the taxi, and he fell onto the road.

The ambulance struck him after he fell, and he was taken to Niguarda hospital, where he died overnight.

An earlier account said it was unclear whether the ambulance’s siren was on or whether it was responding to an emergency; a later account said its siren and flashing lights were off.

The police are investigating the circumstances of the crash.
