US sanctions link Baja California concert company to La Mayiza network
The US Treasury sanctioned a network it says supported the Sinaloa Cartel on September 29, including people and companies linked to the cartel faction known as La Mayiza.
The Treasury says businessman Marco Antonio Moreno Gómez Santelices led In House Espectáculos, a company that organized concerts in Baja California and was linked to Ismael Zambada Sicairos, known as El Mayito Flaco.
The company promoted shows in cities and locations across Baja California, featuring artists such as Los Ángeles Azules, Ricky Martin and Marc Anthony.
The Treasury says Moreno and another businessman ran companies in entertainment and other sectors that laundered money for La Mayiza.
The allegations concern the organizers, not the performers: being hired to perform does not show that an artist knew of alleged criminal links or took part in illegal activity.
No artist had commented on their agreements with the company at the time of publication.
The US sanctions target people and businesses accused of supporting the cartel, but the account does not say what further action will follow.
