Fire at renovation site near Paris’s Austerlitz station is under control

A fire broke out on the roof of a building under renovation beside Austerlitz station in Paris on Wednesday, 14 October.

Firefighters said it burned about 1,000 square metres of roof and spread to part of the fourth floor before it was brought under control.

No one was reported hurt, and the cause of the fire was not known.

The station was not evacuated, and train services continued, though some station offices were cleared ahead of a planned power cut.

The blaze was near a large redevelopment project that includes a future hotel associated with footballer Cristiano Ronaldo, but there is no confirmation the hotel was affected.

The wider project is planned to continue through 2028, and the available information does not say whether the fire will change that schedule.
