South Korean director Kim Young-bin dies

South Korean film director Kim Young-bin has died after a sudden illness, his family and people in the film industry said.

He was known for directing “Kim’s War” and “The Terrorist,” and was 72.

He built his directing experience as an assistant director on films by director Im Kwon-taek, including “The Surrogate Woman” and “Adada.”

Kim made his directing debut in 1992 with “Kim’s War,” based on the case of Korean-Japanese man Kim Hi-ro.

The film brought him several newcomer awards, including at the Blue Dragon Film Awards and the Baeksang Arts Awards.

He later directed films including “There Is No Exit” and “The Terrorist,” and chaired the Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival in 2011 and 2012.

His funeral is scheduled for November 10 in Goheung, South Jeolla Province, with burial at Seoul Memorial Park.
