Elevation Lab withdraws AirTag Silencer over stalking concerns
Elevation Lab has withdrawn its AirTag Silencer after concerns that it could help people track others without their knowledge.
The tool let AirTag owners permanently disable the tracker’s speaker, which can sound an alert when an AirTag is away from its owner.
Elevation Lab said it designed the tool for AirTags on bicycles, partly to stop thieves from finding trackers attached to stolen bikes.
But silencing the speaker could make it harder for someone being tracked to notice an unwanted AirTag.
The company apologized and removed the product, and said it would use its patent to prevent others from making one.
Apple and Google have introduced measures to alert people about unwanted AirTag tracking, but cases and legal challenges over tracking concerns have continued.
