OpenAI starts rolling out PIN-protected chats in ChatGPT

OpenAI is rolling out locked chats in ChatGPT to help users keep selected conversations private when others can access their device.

Users can protect a chat with a four-digit PIN or, on supported devices, Face ID or Touch ID.

Locked chats move to a separate section and remain available to return to, unlike Temporary Chats, which do not appear in chat history.

The feature is intended for personal conversations or plans users do not want others to see, and it is available across several ChatGPT plans.

Locking a chat does not add end-to-end encryption or change how long OpenAI retains it or how model-improvement settings work.

With Memory enabled, locked chats have separate memory, so new information from them does not update regular Memory.

The rollout is gradual, and the feature may not be available to everyone yet.
