Shallow earthquake wakes residents in Granada area

A shallow earthquake near Vegas del Genil woke residents in Granada and nearby towns on Sunday morning.

Spain’s National Geographic Institute recorded the quake about three kilometres underground, and people reported feeling it in several places around Granada.

The reported magnitude was 1.9 or 2.0, with accounts differing on the exact reading and time.

No damage was reported in the accounts of the shaking.

The tremor came during a series of earthquakes in Granada that has continued for about two months.

The series has recently weakened in the number and strength of its quakes, and experts say the latest movements are within its normal pattern as it dies down.

The sources do not give a specific forecast for what happens next.

I’m told an earthquake was felt in Granada, around Zaidín. In Alhendín nothing was felt.
