Avtodor tests colored laser lights on the M-4 Don highway
Avtodor is testing a laser system on the M-4 Don highway near Krasnodar in Russia.
The installation is at kilometre 1,319, near the start of Krasnodar’s Eastern Bypass, and directs its beams towards drivers heading to the city.
Three lasers project blue, red and green beams that spread above the road and can be seen from more than three kilometres away.
The idea is that the unusual light will help drivers stay alert at night, when monotonous driving can reduce attention.
The system is being tested on a limited stretch, and there is no data yet on whether it reduces crashes.
After the test, Avtodor will assess whether to install similar systems on other roads.
