Morena governors back review of questioned INE contracts
Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum called for an investigation into questioned contracts at the National Electoral Institute, known as the INE.
The contracts, she said, exceeded 2 billion pesos between 2014 and 2023, when Lorenzo Córdova led the institute’s General Council.
She said the review should cover earlier tenders and local electoral bodies, not only the INE’s current leadership.
Governors Rocío Nahle of Veracruz and Eduardo Ramírez of Chiapas backed the investigation and called for transparency.
The allegations have not been established; Sheinbaum said the federal audit authority and prosecutors should determine whether anyone acted improperly.
She also said she will present a decree next week to strengthen the state printing company Talleres Gráficos.
