327 Moroccan Minors Returned from Ceuta Since August

Morocco has returned 327 unaccompanied minors from Ceuta between August 2 and October 26, according to a source close to the process.

Ceuta is a Spanish city in North Africa, and the returns followed a large migrant arrival there in late July.

The source said the returns took account of the minors’ best interests and their need to be with their parents.

The returns are taking place daily across the land border between Ceuta and Fnideq, in Morocco.

Morocco’s King Mohammed VI has said the current migration cooperation model with Spain is outdated and that legal and court decisions make returns harder.

Morocco plans a new migration cooperation strategy, though no further details are given about when it will be presented.

This cooperation faces today great challenges related to certain outdated legal provisions and judicial decisions far removed from reality, which, unfortunately, prevent the repatriation of minors and of people who adopt a refugee attitude, thus feeding the greed of criminal networks
