Mishustin proposes five changes to Russia’s government

Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin proposed five government appointments after meeting President Vladimir Putin on Monday.

The nominees are Finance Minister Anton Siluanov, Primorsky Governor Oleg Kozhemyako, Transport Minister Andrei Nikitin, First Deputy Finance Minister Irina Okladnikova and Rosaviatsia head Dmitry Yadrov.

Four of them are proposed for deputy prime minister posts, while Yadrov is nominated to become transport minister.

The proposals also include making Kozhemyako the presidential envoy to the Far Eastern Federal District and Okladnikova head of the government’s staff.

Putin has backed the nominations, but that does not make the appointments final.

Under Russia’s Constitution, the State Duma must approve the candidates, and the nominations will now be submitted to the lower house of parliament.
