Woman pursues Ottoman-era inheritance claims over 20 plots in Turkey

After her mother died in 2021, Nilüfer Akcoşkun Bozbağ began tracing her family history and says it connects her to Ottoman grand vizier Melek Mehmed Pasha.

She says records in Ottoman archives identify 20 plots covering 120,000 square metres, including land in Çeşme, western Turkey.

Bozbağ also claims her family has rights to foundations and says it may own two-thirds of Çeşme, but these are claims she is pursuing through legal channels.

Some cases concerning land linked to Nakiye Hanım have concluded, and Bozbağ says there are 43 heirs to those properties.

Inheritance proceedings for Melek Mehmed Pasha and his wife Ayşe Hanım are continuing in Kocaeli, and she plans to reopen foundation cases after securing the required documents.

She says missing property records and unexamined archive documents make it difficult to confirm the claims.

She has not found a title document for Karabağ Island and says the legal process is still under way.
