Stadler Rail begins building a 40 million-franc centre in Weinfelden
Stadler Rail has begun building a train testing centre in Weinfelden, in Switzerland’s canton of Thurgau.
The company plans to invest about 40 million Swiss francs and create around 80 jobs there.
The centre is due to open in 2028, when it will begin checking new rail vehicles and preparing them for service.
Stadler says its existing centre in nearby Erlen is reaching its capacity limit, so the new site will expand its operations in eastern Switzerland.
Electric test tracks will let trains be checked and driven for the first time before they move on to test runs on the public rail network.
The new facility will also include a large hall, offices and work and storage areas.
These checks are required before public-network test runs, and the new centre is expected to provide the space needed to carry them out.
