Russian strikes kill at least six in Ukraine and leave hundreds of thousands without power

Russian strikes killed at least six people in Ukraine overnight, officials said on Wednesday.

The attacks hit Kyiv and several other regions, and left about 600,000 people without power, according to President Volodymyr Zelensky.

Kyiv’s mayor urged residents to stay in shelters as emergency power cuts affected parts of the capital.

Zelensky said the strikes targeted energy sites covered by an energy ceasefire that US President Donald Trump announced days earlier.

Russia’s defence ministry said it had struck energy and communications facilities, which it described as serving military interests.

Russia also said it had downed 902 Ukrainian drones overnight; Russian officials reported that drone attacks disrupted Moscow airport operations.

The strikes show that the announced ceasefire has not stopped attacks on energy infrastructure; the sources give no details of what will happen next.
