Russian court orders Raiffeisen subsidiary to pay €342 million
A Russian court ordered Raiffeisen’s local subsidiary to pay €342 million to Rasperia in a dispute linked to construction group Strabag.
The ruling came from a court in Kaliningrad, and Raiffeisen Bank International said it was not unexpected.
The dispute followed Rasperia’s loss of its position as Strabag’s main shareholder after EU sanctions against Oleg Deripaska in 2022.
Rasperia was previously linked to Deripaska, but who currently controls the company is unclear.
The Russian penalty is connected to an injunction Rasperia obtained, and follows a September ruling by a court in Vienna that awarded Raiffeisen €3.15 billion in damages.
Rasperia has until midnight Wednesday to appeal that Vienna ruling; if it does not, the judgment becomes final.
