Sydney hospital patient charged after alleged attack on fellow patients

A patient at Prince of Wales hospital in Sydney was charged after an alleged attack on three fellow patients on Tuesday evening.

Police say Raymond James Dungay, 48, poured petrol or another accelerant on two men and a woman, then set one man on fire.

Hospital staff quickly put out the fire, and the man, who was being treated for a spinal condition, suffered minor burns.

The other two patients were treated for minor injuries, and all three were reported to be in stable condition.

Dungay faces two counts of attempted murder, along with other charges, and was expected to appear at a bail hearing on Thursday.

The hospital district said there was no ongoing risk to patients or staff, while New South Wales' health minister apologised and ordered a review alongside the police investigation.
