Spurs to start Fox, Castle and Harper together against Thunder

San Antonio will start three guards against Oklahoma City in its season opener, coach Mitch Johnson says.

De'Aaron Fox, Stephon Castle and Dylan Harper are set to join Devin Vassell and Victor Wembanyama in the starting five.

The Spurs first tried the lineup in a preseason win over Phoenix, where the three guards shared the court for 11 minutes.

The trio played only 69 minutes together last season, and opponents outscored San Antonio by 47 points during those minutes.

Johnson says he wants to start the team’s best five players, rather than bring one of them off the bench.

The lineup gives Wembanyama several ball-handlers who can create shots and run plays around him.

Fox says the group’s impact will depend in part on how well it shoots, and the Spurs will next test it against the Thunder.
