Indonesia’s Civil Service Agency Moves 101 Staff Closer to Family
Indonesia’s National Civil Service Agency has moved 101 staff closer to family through a program placing employees nearer their homes and families.
The latest phase moved 15 employees starting in November 2026, following three earlier phases.
The agency says the program aims to support a better balance between work and family life, as working far from family can add transport, housing and living costs.
The agency’s head also expects closer family ties to support staff well-being and focus at work.
More than 63 government bodies have adopted similar policies, including Bondowoso regency, where a local program has helped about 60 civil servants live closer to work.
Transfers are not automatic or based only on employee preference: each move must fit staffing and operational needs, including available positions and required skills.
The agency hopes the approach will spread further while maintaining public services and staff performance.
