Rescued fox in Leningrad region recovers after getting trapped in a food-waste bag

A fox named Shangti was found with her head trapped in a discarded food-waste bag in the Leningrad region of Russia.

Passersby found her by a road, but it is not known how long she had been trapped.

She was taken to the Veles wildlife rescue centre in serious condition, with repeated seizures after struggling to breathe.

Staff treated her intensively, and the seizures stopped.

Shangti has begun eating and drinking by herself and can get to her feet, but her vision and movement remain impaired.

Reports differ on how much her sight has returned, and one says she may not fully recover.

The centre is continuing her care and helping her adapt to her limitations.
