Saudi rules require private schools to disclose fees 180 days ahead
Saudi Arabia has introduced new rules for private schools covering fees and students’ rights.
Schools must register their fees and explain what they include at least 180 days before the school year starts.
They must also give enrolled families at least 180 days’ notice of fee changes, with an exception for schools newly licensed after that notice period.
Schools must disclose optional services and their prices, and cannot charge for undisclosed services or make families pay for options they do not want.
Students cannot be punished over a parent’s unpaid fees: schools may not bar them from lessons or learning materials, or withhold results, certificates or records.
Schools can still seek unpaid fees through authorised legal channels, but cannot use a student’s education to pressure a parent.
The rules aim to make costs clearer for families and separate fee disputes from students’ education.
Saudi Arabia’s new rules require private schools to disclose tuition fees and included services at least 180 days before the school year begins.
Schools must also notify enrolled students’ parents of fee changes at least 180 days before they take effect.
The rules require schools to disclose optional services and prohibit charges for services that were not disclosed or that parents do not want.
Schools may not involve students in fee claims or restrict their education because of a financial dispute with a parent.
Schools retain the right to collect unpaid fees through the procedures set by the relevant authorities.
