Knowledge of AI tools in Brazil remains unequal, study finds
A survey found that knowledge of AI tools has grown among people in Brazil who use the digital ecosystem.
In the third quarter of 2026, 89.5% of connected Brazilians knew about AI tools, up from 84.7% in the first quarter.
But class A respondents were more familiar with AI than those in classes D and E: 97.3% knew AI tools, compared with 85.4%.
The gap was wider for four leading tools—ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude and Perplexity: 92.7% in class A knew all four, compared with 69.2% in classes D and E. This unequal familiarity adds to digital exclusion, as people with less knowledge may be left behind as AI tools spread.
The study also found that familiarity does not necessarily mean trust, and that social class remains the strongest divide in trust in the digital environment.
A Reglab research director said technology education is needed to help lower-income groups keep up with AI.

Knowledge of all 26 digital platforms assessed also increased, from 63.3% in the second quarter to 69.2% in the third.
The study’s research director said technological literacy is needed to prevent lower-income groups from falling behind.
