Apple begins delayed AI rollout in China, with public access due in December

Apple began a developer trial of Apple Intelligence in China on November 4, more than two years after the tools first launched elsewhere.

The first release includes 18 features, such as translating calls, summarising messages and proofreading text.

AI-powered Siri is not included, though the rollout brings some other Siri improvements.

The delay reflected China’s rules for AI services, which require regulatory approval and domestic data processing.

Apple received approval in July and is working with Alibaba’s Qwen to add more powerful AI features.

Public access is expected in December, according to Apple.

The launch gives Apple users in China new tools, but the company faces strong competition from local phone makers and internet firms.
