China factory prices rise 5% as consumer inflation stays subdued
In September, prices charged by Chinese factories rose 5% compared with a year earlier.
That was up from 3.8% in August and the fastest rise since mid-2022.
Consumer prices rose 0.9%, compared with 0.8% in August.
Producer prices track what manufacturers charge for goods, while consumer prices measure changes in the prices households pay.
Factory prices are climbing much faster than consumer prices, showing that price increases are stronger at the production stage than in household spending.
The figures come as Beijing seeks to support domestic demand and meet its annual growth target, but no further steps are specified.
China’s consumer price index rose 0.9 per cent year on year in September, up from 0.8 per cent in August.
The producer price index rose 5 per cent year on year, its highest rate since mid-2022, compared with 3.8 per cent in August.
The National Bureau of Statistics said both annual inflation rates increased from the previous month.
Higher gasoline prices contributed to consumer inflation, while rising international oil and metal prices helped lift factory-gate prices.
