Tomé wins court approval to take over Duralex glassworks
A court in Orléans chose Tomé to take over Duralex on Wednesday, 14 October.
The glassworks is in La Chapelle-Saint-Mesmin, in France’s Loiret department, and is known for its everyday drinking glasses.
Tomé is the holding company of entrepreneur Cédric Meston, who is working with a group of investors and already owns Tupperware France.
Duralex entered court-supervised restructuring in June, four months before the court’s decision, after financial difficulties.
Its employees had taken over the business as a cooperative two years earlier, but that effort did not prevent another restructuring.
The takeover plan keeps 155 of 220 jobs, meaning around 65 workers will lose their jobs.
The court selected Tomé over a rival offer from the Carlesimo foundry group because Tomé proposed to retain more employees.
The decision is intended to keep the factory operating, though the sources do not say when the takeover will be completed or what happens next for the affected workers.
An Orléans commercial court chose Tomé to take over the Duralex glassworks, selecting its offer over that of the Carlesimo group.
Tomé’s offer would retain 155 of the 220 employees at the site.
The takeover follows Duralex’s entry into court-supervised restructuring four months earlier.
The glassworks is in La Chapelle-Saint-Mesmin, in the Loiret department.

What people are saying
We are deeply sorry for the sixty or so people who will lose their jobs, but this was the best solution to keep the business going and avoid a chain reaction among Duralex’s industrial partners.
We must not find ourselves two years from now in another court-supervised restructuring process, with new threats of closure.
