Wrong Anthems Played at Three Asian Para Games Events

Wrong Anthems Played at Three Asian Para Games Events

Wrong national anthems were played at three events during the ongoing Aichi-Nagoya Asian Para Games in Japan.

Iran’s anthem was played at medal ceremonies for men’s and women’s para taekwondo, won by athletes from Taiwan and Mongolia.

South Korea’s anthem was played instead of China’s before a sitting volleyball match between China and Iran.

Nagoya Mayor Ichiro Hirosawa, who is also acting president of the organizing committee, apologized to the athletes and officials affected.

The repeated mistake drew concern because the organizers had faced criticism over a similar anthem mix-up and other problems during the Asian Games, which ended on Oct.

The Para Games are ongoing, but no further steps by the organizers were stated.
