Rising fuel prices reshape daily life for drivers in France

Rising fuel prices in France are forcing people who depend on cars to change their routines.

Sébastien, an unemployed man living in rural Vendée, says he and his partner now make only essential trips and have given up holidays and leisure outings.

He says fuel costs also make it harder to attend job interviews and required appointments, with little public transport available near his home.

France's fuel consumption was 30% lower in mid-September than at the start of the month.

On October 9, diesel cost an average of 2.35 euros per litre.

The government has announced that it will release 10 million barrels of diesel from strategic stocks, aiming to lower pump prices by 12 to 18 cents per litre.

The measure is not expected to affect prices until November.
