Australian umpire Ben Treloar takes part in Ranji Trophy exchange

Australian umpire Ben Treloar is officiating in India as part of an exchange between the cricket boards of Australia and India.

The 44-year-old has umpired 30 first-class matches in Australia, but this is his first time officiating a Ranji Trophy match.

His first game was Delhi against Gujarat at the Airforce Palam ground in New Delhi.

Treloar said the black-soil pitch was slower and flatter than the pitches he had recently seen in Australia, making it a different challenge.

Delhi scored 648 for six before declaring, while Gujarat replied with 479 in a match with long innings for both teams.

Treloar will umpire Mumbai against Haryana next week before returning to Australia.

As part of the same exchange, Indian umpire Parashar Joshi is due to officiate in Australia’s Sheffield Shield and One-Day Cup.
