Social programs reach 41.4% of Mexican households, IMCO says
About 16.4 million Mexican households receive social program income, according to figures shared by the Mexican Institute for Competitiveness, or IMCO.
The figures are based on Mexico’s 2025 Intercensal Survey by the national statistics agency, INEGI.
Nationwide, 41.4% of households have at least one member who receives support from a federal or state program.
Guerrero has the highest share at 57%, followed by Oaxaca at 56.9% and Chiapas at 53%.
By contrast, Quintana Roo has the lowest share at 25.8%, a gap of 31.2 percentage points from Guerrero.
Coverage shows how widely programs reach households, but not whether they work, IMCO said.
IMCO says the next task is to evaluate program results, rather than only count how many households receive support.
