Amazon removes Alexa voice controls for AUX on several older Echo speakers

Amazon has disabled Alexa voice commands for AUX on four older Echo speakers: the second-generation Echo Plus, third-generation Echo, original Echo Studio and fourth-generation Echo.

The commands let users switch the speaker to audio coming through a cable, such as from a phone or computer.

The physical AUX connection still works, but users must select Line In or Line Out in the Alexa app on models that support those options.

The AUX jack can play audio from another device or send Echo audio to a wired speaker, depending on the model.

Owners do not need to replace their speakers to keep using a working AUX port.

Amazon did not explain why it removed the voice controls, but said it had notified the small number of customers who used them.

The app is now the way to manage AUX input, while playback controls for the connected device remain on that device.
