Celina Leão plans to remove political appointees from her government

Federal District Governor Celina Leão plans to remove some party-appointed officials from her government.

She took office in April after her predecessor, Ibaneis Rocha of the MDB, left to run for the Senate; he later withdrew his candidacy amid investigations involving Banco Master.

The planned changes mainly target officials appointed under Rocha, who was Leão’s deputy governor.

Leão has told parties holding government posts that she will withdraw some of their appointments, while saying she will choose which parties hold key positions.

The decree is expected on December 31, though it has not yet been issued.

Leão’s allies Michelle Bolsonaro and Bia Kicis are set to name the heads of the Health and Agriculture secretariats, respectively.
