Sandwich Man visit Auschwitz for a TV special
Japanese comedy duo Sandwich Man visited Auschwitz in Poland for a television special.
Auschwitz was a Nazi German camp where more than one million people, including Jews, were murdered.
Today, it is a national museum that preserves the buildings and grounds, and draws about two million visitors each year.
The duo saw personal belongings taken from prisoners and victims, including piles of shoes and a small child’s shoe.
They also viewed a gas chamber and the crematorium beside it, where prisoners’ bodies were burned.
Prisoners secretly took photographs to document Nazi crimes, despite the danger, and the museum displays some of those images.
The programme also showed a restricted area where barracks used by prisoners are being repaired.
The visit is meant to help preserve evidence of the crimes and remind people that war must not happen again.

What people are saying
War is wrong, absolutely!
I wanted to go and see it, but it was beyond what I imagined.
It is evidence that this really happened, not just something seen in photographs or heard about.
The fact that the crematorium was right next to it… The feeling that it was such a systematic process was truly horrifying.
