Turkish MP says he may reconsider his path in party

Yeniden Refah Party MP Doğan Bekin is waiting for party leaders to act after raising concerns about remarks concerning the late politician Necmettin Erbakan.

Bekin said party deputy leader Suat Kılıç made serious accusations about Erbakan in a book about Turkey’s 28 February period.

Bekin says the party has not directly answered his questions and criticism and has instead tried to move the issue elsewhere.

Erbakan was the party’s founder and a former prime minister, and Bekin says he remains loyal to Erbakan and the Milli Görüş movement.

The dispute challenges the party’s handling of its founder’s legacy, according to Bekin.

Asked whether he would resign, he said he would consult with others and choose his next direction if leaders take no necessary steps.

Bekin did not say that he had decided to leave the party.
