BC Partners drops $300 million bid to relaunch LIV Golf
BC Partners has dropped its planned $300 million backing for a relaunch of LIV Golf, the men’s golf circuit that competes with the PGA Tour.
The financing was intended to help the league emerge from bankruptcy restructuring and prepare for a 2027 season.
The firm withdrew after LIV failed to secure enough player commitments by a deadline for showing it could run a new tournament series.
Only four players had publicly committed, while several prominent golfers had said they would not return.
Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund ended its backing after the 2026 season; it had committed more than $5 billion since LIV launched in 2022.
LIV’s future is now uncertain, although the league has said it plans to keep operating during restructuring.
A bankruptcy court hearing is scheduled in Trenton, New Jersey, on Thursday, but it is unclear whether the league’s overall future will be discussed.
BC Partners has withdrawn its planned funding of up to $300 million for a proposed LIV Golf relaunch, according to reports.
The firm reportedly concluded it lacked enough player commitments to form a viable league for 2027.
LIV had sought to relaunch as “LIV 2.0” after filing for bankruptcy protection in September.
Several prominent players, including Jon Rahm and Sergio García, have said they would not join the proposed version.
