Mexico investigates AHMSA bidder over unpaid auction guarantee
Mexico’s federal prosecutor is investigating Arturo Domínguez Arteaga, who represented construction company CIESA in a bid for the assets of steelmaker AHMSA and its subsidiary MINOSA.
The investigation concerns a possible false statement in his offer, not a finding of guilt.
Domínguez offered $1.4 billion for the companies’ assets, but the court required a $56.3 million guarantee to support the bid.
He deposited just 5,000 pesos after being allowed 10 business days to meet that requirement.
None of the six qualified bidders had paid the guarantee during the auction, but CIESA was allowed to take part on the promise it would pay later.
The judge referred the matter to prosecutors, who requested certified auction records and a video of the hearing as they investigate.
