Bankaool plans to expand lending to small and medium-sized businesses

Bankaool plans to expand loans to small and medium-sized businesses in Mexico, which it calls Pymes.

Chief executive Francisco Lira says the bank sees its plans as aligned with the government’s Plan México.

The bank aims to offer businesses products including short-term loans, foreign exchange transactions and factoring.

It plans to use technology and branches to make banking easier for these businesses, and aims to increase its branches from 32 to 50 by the end of the year.

The regulator says Bankaool has lent 20.6 billion pesos for business and commercial activities, while its share of the banking market is 0.21%.

Bankaool also wants to strengthen personal and payroll loans, though the regulator’s figures show those loans are currently small.

Lira says mortgage lending is a possibility several years from now, not in the short term.

The Plan México seems to have come out of our business plan. We are advocates for the government to do very well.

What makes us different is the hybrid model. It should be easy for an SME to interact with the bank and very quick to open an account.
