Patriots open A.J. Brown's practice window after ankle injury

The New England Patriots have opened A.J. Brown's practice window as the receiver returns from injury.

Brown suffered a high ankle sprain in the Patriots' season-opening loss to the Seattle Seahawks and went on injured reserve.

He is set to return to practice Wednesday, with Week 6 the earliest he could be activated from injured reserve.

The Patriots now have 21 days to add him to the active roster, or he will remain on injured reserve for the rest of the season.

Coach Mike Vrabel has not said when Brown will play, and the team will assess his readiness after he returns to practice.

Brown joined New England in an offseason trade with the Philadelphia Eagles, and his return could give quarterback Drake Maye another top receiver.

I can't tell you until we actually see it. He hadn't been out there for four weeks, so we'll get him back out there practicing and see if he's ready to go in a couple days. If not, then 21-day window and we'll go from there.

We obviously know we have a shortened week next week. Can't impact our decisions to try and do everything we can to win this week, and then figure out where we are after that.
