Tottenham beat 10-man Crystal Palace 2-0 as Mateta sees red

Tottenham beat Crystal Palace 2-0 at home after Palace striker Jean-Philippe Mateta was sent off in the 13th minute.

The referee changed a yellow card to a red after reviewing Mateta’s studs-up challenge on Tottenham defender Micky van de Ven.

Archie Gray headed Tottenham ahead from a corner, and Jan Paul van Hecke scored a second-half rebound to seal the win.

It was Tottenham’s third league win in a row, while Palace fell to third-bottom after losing three league games consecutively.

The result adds to pressure on Palace manager Pierre Sage, with the club in the relegation zone.

Mateta faces a three-match suspension unless Palace win an appeal, which would rule him out of the next league games.

Palace’s next league match is at home to Liverpool on 8 November, and Tottenham moved up to eighth.
