Shell quarterly profit nearly doubles to $10.8bn as energy prices rise

Shell reported $10.8bn in adjusted profit for July to September, nearly twice what it made in the same quarter a year earlier.

The company’s results were boosted by higher oil and gas prices linked to the Iran war, which has disrupted energy supplies.

Shell also plans to return $5bn to shareholders through buybacks over the next three months, up from $3bn in the previous quarter.

The conflict has damaged a key gas-processing facility, and Shell’s gas production fell by about a third from its prewar level.

Campaigners criticised the profits as households and motorists face higher fuel costs and inflation.

There is no sign of an end to the war or the Strait of Hormuz reopening, according to the reports.
