Man seriously injured in three-dog attack in Broome
A man in his 40s was attacked by three pit bulls on Streeter Avenue in Broome, Western Australia, at about 3am on October 21.
Miranda Shovellor and Stewart Turner heard his calls for help, and Turner used a car to keep the dogs back before taking him to hospital.
The man was flown to Perth for treatment and was later discharged.
The dogs had reportedly circled a resident’s car earlier that night, and Shovellor said attempts to reach police and rangers went unanswered.
Rangers caught the dogs at about 7am; the Shire of Broome says it received no earlier notification and that rangers are unavailable overnight, though a 24-hour hotline can log reports.
The dogs’ owners consented to their euthanasia, and the shire is investigating the attack.
Residents say they remain unsettled, and Shovellor wants more ways to report incidents outside business hours.
