xAI seeks to buy up to 418 homes near its Mississippi data centers

In Southaven, Mississippi, Elon Musk’s xAI is seeking to buy homes near its expanding data center complex.

A real estate agent said the company is targeting 418 houses in the Colonial Hills neighborhood, and 18 owners have agreed to sell.

The offers come with a condition: owners must agree not to join a noise lawsuit against xAI.

Residents complain that gas turbines powering the data centers make constant noise, and some say it disrupts their sleep.

The dispute matters because the proposed purchases could reshape much of the neighborhood and provide housing for xAI staff.

Three data centers have been built nearby in Southaven and neighboring Memphis over the past two years, as xAI expands its AI computing operations.

The company has not confirmed the home-buying figures or said what will happen next, and it denies claims in the noise lawsuit.
