HomePod mini 2 can play Mac system audio with compatible devices
Apple says the HomePod mini 2 can play a Mac’s system audio, including notification sounds, through its speakers.
The feature also works with the second-generation HomePod, and either model can be used in a stereo pair.
A Mac with Wi-Fi 6E is required, including certain models from 2023 or later.
The supported speakers are the 2023 HomePod and the HomePod mini 2, which Apple revealed with an updated S10 chip.
The feature is not live in macOS Golden Gate yet, as of October 14.
Apple says it could appear when the HomePod mini 2 launches on October 30, and users will manage the setting under Sound in System Settings.
This gives compatible Mac users another way to hear system sounds and music, while other AirPlay speakers can play media but not Mac system audio.
