Michele Riondino says he would consider playing adult Montalbano

Michele Riondino says he would accept playing adult Salvo Montalbano if asked, after portraying the detective when he was younger.

Montalbano is a popular Italian television character created by writer Andrea Camilleri, whose stories are set in the fictional town of Vigàta.

Riondino played the younger detective in the prequel series Il giovane Montalbano, while Luca Zingaretti played him in the main series.

Riondino says a handover could continue the story, and he expressed respect and affection for Zingaretti.

There is no official announcement of a new series or casting, so the idea remains a possibility rather than a confirmed project.

Two Camilleri novels have not been adapted for television: Il cuoco dell’Alcyon and Riccardino, the latter written as the literary saga’s conclusion.

Adapting Riccardino could be especially difficult because it breaks the boundary between the fictional detective and the author who created him.
