Hainan services trade rises 11.7% in first nine months of 2026
China’s island province of Hainan recorded 56.95 billion yuan in international services trade from January to September 2026, up 11.7% from a year earlier.
Services exports rose 14.9% to 40.41 billion yuan, while imports increased 4.7% to 16.54 billion yuan.
The province also saw cross-border yuan payments for goods trade jump 51%, to 1.074 trillion yuan.
The figures cover different kinds of activity: the services total includes areas such as tourism, transport and computer games, while the yuan payments figure concerns goods trade.
Hainan authorities linked tourism growth to visa-free entry and more air traffic, including more visitors from Russia, Kazakhstan and South Korea.
Faster cross-border payments can reduce paperwork and costs for eligible businesses; some can receive funds the same day, and net settlement can combine multiple payments into one.
The services trade department expects international transport services to grow significantly by the end of 2026, and says Hainan plans to develop transport, tourism and new services.
Hainan’s cross-border yuan payments for goods trade reached 1.074 trillion yuan in the first nine months of 2026, up 51% year on year.
They accounted for 30.5% of the province’s cross-border payments and receipts in domestic and foreign currencies during the period.
Total cross-border yuan payments and receipts across Hainan rose 16.9% to 4.362 trillion yuan.
The figures were announced at a news conference by the People’s Bank of China’s Hainan branch on October 29.
The branch said expanded financial services and pilot programmes were making cross-border settlement more convenient.
