Argentina’s infant mortality rate fell to 8 per 1,000 births in 2025, down from 8.5 the year before.

The preliminary figures were presented by the Health Ministry at a meeting with health officials from the provinces and Buenos Aires city.

The country recorded 401,245 live births, compared with 413,135 in 2024.

Births continued a longer-term decline, falling 3% year over year, while officials also reported fewer teenage pregnancies and more premature births.

The national average masks differences across the country: 15 of 24 jurisdictions saw infant mortality fall, eight saw it rise, and Buenos Aires city’s rate was unchanged.

The full vital statistics report has not yet been published because some provinces have delayed submitting information on adult deaths.

Officials say the preliminary figures can help guide health decisions, but the final report is still pending.
