University researcher evicted from his Burjassot home at 6 a.m

Daniel González, a researcher at the University of Valencia, was evicted from his home in Burjassot, near Valencia, early Thursday.

He had lived there since 2009 and, according to the reports, paid his rent on time.

The eviction took place at 6 a.m., over three hours earlier than scheduled, with a large police presence; González said he felt trapped and was later treated at a health centre for anxiety.

The eviction had been temporarily stopped on 30 September while negotiations with the owner were pursued.

Those negotiations failed, and the eviction went ahead after a long court dispute over the property.

González had previously won two court rulings, but the latest ruling favoured the property owner.

The owner is seeking about €36,000, linked to a disputed rent reduction during the economic crisis, and the legal battle continues.
