Trento faces a €748,000 gap in its draft city budget
Trento’s draft city budget is about €748,000 short of balance, officials told a council committee.
Rising costs include public transport investment and contractual pay adjustments, while the city is still waiting for clearer information about provincial funding.
To limit the gap, officials have made technical spending cuts affecting culture, staff and welfare.
The city says these are not final cuts to cultural programs: activities planned for the first half of the year are covered, and later plans may receive funding through a budget adjustment.
The draft also uses just over €5 million in one-off urbanisation revenue to help pay for current spending.
Mayor Franco Ianeselli says the city wants to balance the budget without cutting services or raising fees.
The final budget must be prepared by 20 October, and the city is also considering how its €800,000 annual nursery-fee reduction fits with a new provincial reimbursement scheme for families.
